Clinical Indication: Sitagliptin is used in type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control by enhancing the incretin pathway: it is a DPP-4 inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of GLP‑1 and GIP. This results in glucose-dependent increases in insulin secretion and reductions in glucagon release, lowering fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels with a relatively low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone or with non–insulin secretagogues.
