Cefotaxima

Descripción

Formula:

• Cefotaxime 1g

Indications:

• Used to treat gonorrhea, meningitis, and severe infections including infections of the kidney (pyelonephritis) and urinary system. Also used before an operation to prevent infection after surgery.
• Cefotaxime injection is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria including pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections; gonorrhea; meningitis and other infections of the brain and spine; and abdominal, female reproductive organs, skin, blood, bones, joints, and urinary tract infections.

Dosage:

• Gonococcal Urethritis/ Cervicitis – 0.5g IM once
• Gonorrhea, Rectal – men: 1g IM once. Women: 0.5g IM once.
• Infections caused by susceptible organisms:
  • uncomplicated: 1g IV or IM every 12 hours
  • moderate to severe: 1-2 g IV or IM every 8 hours.
• Prophylaxis of surgical infection – 1 g IV/IM once 30-90 minutes before procedure.

As prescribed by the doctor.

Advantage:

Readily crosses the blood brain barrier and is an excellent alternative for patients with penicillin allergy.
